What is high CRI LED Flexible & Linear Light?

CRI (color rendering index) is a number rating of how accurately a light source illuminates objects’ true colors. The CRI number is ranked from zero to 100, a higher number represents turer colors of the objects is appearing. Our LED flexible and linear lights adopts high CRI values LED light source of up to 98 with R9 90, emitting white light that approximates halogen or incandescent lighting and natural daylight.

But Color Rendering Index (CRI) is an often misunderstood metric of color quality. Yet, for any application where color appearance like hospitals, textile factories, printing facilities, paint shops or art gallery is important, CRI consideration is critical and there are some points you can learn to better understand the CRI and help you identify and improve your quality if light.

First of all, How is CRI measured?

Before calculating CRI via algorithmic calculations once the spectrum of the light source in question is measured. The color temperature for the light source must be determed and it is calculated from spectral measurements. And thus we will select the appropriate daylight spectrum to use for comparison.

Then, the light source will be virtually shone onto a series of virtual color swatches called test color samples (TCS) with the reflected color measured.

There are two gernal testing methods and two test color samples swatches correspondingly, one is total of 8 color swatches which is traditionaly applied the new one is CQS using 15 TCS swatches.

Finally, we compare the reflected colors and formulaically determine the “R” value for each color swatch.

average of R value

The R value for a particular color indicates the ability of a light source to faithfully render that particular color of an object.

Therefore, to characterize the overall color rendering capability of a light source across a variety of colors, the CRI formula takes an average of the R values.Obviously, the more TCS used the more faithfully and accuracy capability can be tested, this is a statistical technology application.

Which and how many R values are averaged will depend on which definition of CRI you are using – general CRI (Ra), extended CRI or the CQS. We Lineart Lighting adopt the LED light source from the well known brand like Nichia, Samsung, YujiLEDs with high CRI like 95 at R9 of 90, who completely tested their LEDs through CQS method and supply LEDs with CRI, that ensures the best light color quality.

To be simple, What are common CRI values and what is acceptable?

For the most commercial indoor and lighting applications, 80 CRI (Ra) is the general baseline for acceptable color rendering.

For applications where color appearance is an key importance for the work being done inside, or can contribute to improve aesthetics, 90 CRI (Ra) and above should be a necesary consideration . Lights in this CRI range are generally considered high CRI lights.

Further more,When comparing lighting products with CRI values above 90, it can be very helpful to compare the individual R values that make up the CRI score, particularly CRI R9. The best solution is to provide the CQS test reports.

(That’s right – despite the awful energy efficiency of halogen and incandescent bulbs, they produce a full, natural and excellent light spectrum).
